Kakamega School has been crowned the 2026 Kakamega County Rugby Fifteens champions after edging St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School 5–3 in a tense final played during the Term One Secondary School Games.
The narrow victory finally delivered the long-awaited county title to the Barbarians, who have been pursuing the crown for several years. The win confirmed Kakamega School as Kakamega County champions while St. Peter’s Mumias finished as runners-up, with both teams qualifying for the Western Region Secondary School Games.
The final clash was a closely fought contest dominated by solid defense from both sides. Kakamega School managed to break through with a crucial try that proved decisive in the tightly balanced match, sealing the 5–3 victory and the championship.
The School’s route to the final was marked by dominant performances. In the semifinals, the Barbarians brushed aside Butere Boys High School 30–5 to book their place in the final.
St. Peter’s Mumias secured their spot in the final after defeating St. Mary’s School Mukumu 14–7 in the second semifinal.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Butere Boys defeated Koyonzo Boys High School 31–3 while Kakamega School produced one of the biggest wins of the tournament, thrashing Musingu High School 60–9.

St. Peter’s Mumias progressed after beating Kilimani Secondary School 25–0, while Mukumu Boys defeated Lubinu Boys High School 36–3 to reach the semifinals.
In the third-place playoff, Butere Boys edged Mukumu Boys 12–10 to finish third in the county competition.
With the county championship concluded, attention now shifts to the Western Region Rugby Fifteens Games where top teams from the region will battle for supremacy and qualification to the national stage.
Teams that have advanced to the Western Region Rugby 15s Games include Bungoma High School, St. Paul’s Amukura High School, Butula Boys High School, Kakamega High School, St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School, Senende Boys High School, Vihiga Boys High School and Friends School Bokoli.
Meanwhile, in the Kakamega County hockey championship, Musingu High School was crowned champions after a commanding 6–0 victory over Kakamega High School in the final.
Musingu delivered a dominant performance throughout the match, controlling play and converting their chances to secure the emphatic win and lift the 2026 county hockey title.
The focus now shifts to the regional competitions where the champions and runners-up will test their strength against other top schools from across Western Kenya in what promises to be highly competitive contests.
