The scorpion of Musingu High has stung the Green Commandoes, snapping off nine Kakamega School football team players to stoke embers between Western region’s two celebrated footballing schools.
The nine have enjoyed a free education scholarship courtesy of the Kakamega School’s alumni and formed part of the first eleven until December last year when the scorpions’ coach Brendan Mwinamo approached and lured them to Musingu High on a seemingly other football scholarships.
In the latest tiff, coming ahead of the Kakamega County Term Two ball games championships to be held in Mumias next week, the following nine players are Braxton Ouma, Aston Walter, Emmanuel Marcus, Haustin Oluoch, Samson Kibaki, Stanley Melon, Roney Ochieng, Maxwell Onyango and Jeremiah Ombonga Omari are in the eye of the storm.
Kakamega School Principal Dr Julius Mambili petitioned the Kakamega County Director of Education (CDE) and TSC on matter citing flaws in the students transfer process.
In the letter addressed to Kakamega County KSSSA Chairman, Dr Mambili said the KSSSA Constitution had been violated by Musingu which stipulates that “students transferring from one school team to another school team shall not exceed two (2), if more than two, and then all will not be eligible to play for a period of one year.”
Dr Mambili further said that three of the nine players have already participated in the sub-county ball games which were held recently, against the KSSSA rules. Musingu emerged winner of Kakamega South Sub-county.
Dr Mambili said that until now no action has been taken by the KSSSA officials, few days to the county games.
On his part, Musingu School Principal Bernard Likuya defended the arrivals from the rival school claiming the students and their parents bolted from Kakamega School.
“When dealing with minors, parents have the final say on where a child would school,” he told Education News.
Musingu has lately stoked Kakamega School football stability. First, she lured to its staple ex- Green Commandoes coach Mwinamo and three key players.
Kakamega School had given each student a 4-year soccer scholarship to study and play for the Green Commandoes FC, a school sponsored FKF Western first division league club.
Early in the year, Musingu was adjudged for preying on a Form One football player admitted at St Marys Yala School in Siaya County. Harambee stars international Michael Olunga Foundation had offered the boy a scholarship.
Musingu however preyed on the boy and lured him to the scorpions den. “This case is similar to that of Yala School. The boy’s mother resolved it easily declaring that her son will be here,” Lukuya said.
