Stephen Sibena, the principal of Kakamega Multipurpose Development Training Institute at Rosterman has expressed concern over the low enrolment of adult education learners at the centre.
He pointed out that the admission was too low compared to that of other multipurpose institutions where students are many and ready to learn.
‘Students should enrol for adult and continuing education,’ he said.
Mr. Sibena further added that the community has a negative attitude towards continuing education hence many people venture into the boda Boda or gold mining business.
He revealed that there was a fully equipped computer lab with 20 computers in the institution and that there were no adults to pursue computer classes as well as utilise the library services that were readily available.
He compared the institution to his previous station in Ahero where many people came out for adult education who likewise sat for the Kenya certificate of primary examination-KCPE and Kenya certificate of secondary examination-KCSE annually.
This year only a handful of candidates will sit for KNEC exams at Kakamega Multipurpose Development Training Institute.
Sibena expressed concern that Kenya youth empowerment and opportunity projects, conferences and mobilizations as well as trainings on small business and enterprises with grants aren’t been largely embraced by the large population of youths in the county.
