Kakamega ready to host 2025 FEASSSA games as final touches done

Final preparations are underway in Kakamega County ahead of the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games, with the regional event set to kick off on 3rd August 2025.

The county will first host the National Secondary School Games from 29th July to 2nd August, paving the way for the East Africa championship that will feature participants from six countries in the region and beyond.

On Wednesday, Kakamega County Executive Committee Member for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture, Jackline Masicha, led an inspection of sports venues including Kakamega School, Bukhungu Stadium, and Kakamega Police Canteen, expressing confidence in the county’s readiness to host the event.

“Most of our facilities are ready to host this decorated extravaganza. Bukhungu Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies, is ahead of schedule, and will feature an artificial turf,” said Masicha.

She was accompanied by Chief Officers Saxon Kweyu (Sports and Youth) and Christine Oside (Social Services, Gender and Culture).

A total of 12 sports disciplines will be featured, including football, rugby, tennis, basketball, badminton, hockey, netball, handball, chess, scrabble, and cricket.

Kakamega’s school teams, which recently dominated the regional qualifiers in Mumias, are expected to be strong contenders both at the national and regional levels.

The FEASSSA Games will attract student-athletes from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and selected schools from other African countries and Europe, underlining the tournament’s growing international profile.
