Kakamega County government has launched a county-wide distribution of blankets and mattresses to pupils living with disabilities across all 12 sub-counties.
The program, led by the Department of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender, and Culture under CECM Jackline Masicha, began on Tuesday at Siyombe Primary Special Unit in Navakholo, where 15 learners benefited.
The exercise later covered Lung’anyiro School for the Disabled in Matungu, Sunrise School in Mumias West, and Rise and Shine School in Mumias East.
Masicha urged parents not to hide children with disabilities, emphasizing that they are entitled to equal rights and opportunities. She said the initiative aligns with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s manifesto on inclusive education, which prioritizes access to quality learning for all.
