A storm is brewing over the succession of Kakamega High School’s principal, with the school’s alumni now warning Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale against interfering in the process.
Speaking in Kakamega on Sunday, the old boys, led by alumnus Micah Sakali, accused Khalwale of attempting to influence the appointment of Malava Boys High School Principal Elphas Luvaso as the successor to Julius Mambili, who is set to retire this week.

“Basic education is not a devolved function, and Senator Khalwale should stop meddling with school affairs,” said Sakali. “He must let the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) do its work independently and professionally.”
The group urged the senator to respect the autonomy of the TSC and allow it to conduct the appointment process without political interference.

Luvaso is among three names reportedly under consideration for the job, alongside Dr. Tom Shavisa of Senende Boys High School and Benard Lukuya of Musingu High School.
The old boys said Kakamega High School’s long-standing reputation and academic performance must not be jeopardized by political appointments.
Efforts to reach Senator Khalwale for comment were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered.
The TSC has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
