Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres in Kakamega county have been urged to manage capitation funds with prudence to ensure the delivery of quality education.
During a recent workshop held in Butere and Mumias West sub-counties, the Chief Officer for Education, Science and Technology, Ms. Vivien Ayuma, said that effective use of the funds was crucial in fostering an environment where children can thrive.
“We want to ensure that each shilling is spent wisely to enhance the quality of education,” Ayuma said.

Ayuma also highlighted the need for a shift in focus from traditional graduation ceremonies to a more comprehensive approach to child development.
“We must prioritize holistic development for our learners. The early years are fundamental for brain development, language acquisition and cognitive skills,” she remarked, stressing the critical nature of these formative years.

The workshop also aimed at providing teachers with essential teaching materials and strategies to enrich their educational practices.
“This forum is not just about resources; it’s about empowering our educators to make a meaningful impact in the classroom. Kakamega county aims to ensure that its early education framework supports the growth and potential of its young learners,” Ayuma concluded.
