The Police Commander of Kakamega North sub-county Paul Mwendwa Nkanatha has called upon the management of the two local mills to prioritize employing young individuals as they resume operations.
Recognizing the capacity of the two mills to absorb a substantial number of, Nkanatha encouraged the management to extend job opportunities to support livelihoods and reduce crime..
He urged the millers to provide casual employment opportunities to the numerous idle youths in the sub-county, helping to deter criminal activities such as drug abuse during the festive season.
He further applauded the mills for reabsorbing their initial employees, who had faced financial challenges during the closure.
Nkanatha advised young people to embrace menial jobs as a means of self-reliance, emphasizing the scarcity of white-collar opportunities in the current economic climate.
He sternly warned against engaging in illegal activities, assuring that the government would take decisive action against those breaking the law.
The police commander stressed that embracing cane farming would not only secure employment for farmers and their siblings but also prevent thefts and burglaries resulting from mill closures.
Additionally, Nkanatha urged boda boda riders to adhere to traffic rules when ferrying factory employees.
Anticipating an increased number of workers commuting to and from the factories, he emphasized the need for orderliness and safety to prevent accidents caused by overcrowded boda boda rides.
