Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has called on the education department in the county and the education committee in the county assembly to come up with policies that will ensure there is a smooth transition of college, and university graduands to employees.

Lenku was speaking during a meeting with Kajiado County scholarship and bursary program University and College Students first cohort 2020-2023.

The governor said his government will come up with policies to ensure the students benefit from a smooth transition from student to employee.

“We must ensure that those students we sponsor are not abandoned, we will work with them and ensure they get jobs,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries of the program David Saruni a student from Kabarak University said the event was a good opportunity for them to share their journeys, challenges and successes together.

He said the program was of great benefit, they have been struggling due to severe famine and drought that hit the county in the past year.

The drought had affected many families who depended on livestock for school fees many families who lost livestock are yet to recover from the losses.

The County has set up a bursary kitty for needy students from poor families admitted to secondary schools, middle-level colleges and universities.

Kajiado is among the counties that record low number of students who qualify to join colleges and universities due to poverty, and cultural practices among other issues.
