Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) has issued a warning to students following a spate of incidents in which conmen posing as students have been stealing mobile phones from students.
In a memo dated September 16, 2025, the Kaimosi Friends University Students Association (KAFUSA), through its president Elumbe Xavier, cautioned students against lending their phones to strangers. The warning comes after reports that fraudsters have been approaching learners, claiming they need to make urgent calls or access mobile services, only to disappear with the devices.
“Once they get the phones, they vanish, and victims later report the phones as ‘lost,’” the memo stated.

Students have been strongly advised to exercise caution. The memo outlined three key measures: avoid giving phones to strangers under any circumstances, stay alert and watch belongings, and report any suspicious activity to the security office, the Dean of Students office, or KAFUSA immediately.
The student leadership has urged vigilance and collective responsibility to curb the scam. “Let’s stay vigilant and protect each other from these scams,” the memo concluded.
The warning highlights a concern over campus safety as similar cases of phone theft and fraud continue to rise in institutions across the country.
