Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) ushered in 2,587 first-year students on Friday in a colourful and lively ceremony that combined official speeches, cultural performances, and moments of celebration.
The induction event, held on the university grounds, brought together senior officials, local leaders, staff, and students in a blend of inspiration and festivity. Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, served as the chief guest.
In an emotional address, she reflected on her career trajectory and credited KAFU with laying the foundation for her success. “It is KAFU that made me who I am today,” she said.
Dr. Imbunya began her professional journey at the institution as a young lecturer, later rose to the position of Dean, and now serves as Principal Secretary. Her testimony drew warm applause from students, many of whom said her journey gave them hope about their own futures.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita challenged the new students to broaden their ambitions beyond obtaining degrees. “Seek solutions, invent, and chase impact,” he said, urging the cohort to focus on innovation and problem-solving to contribute meaningfully to society. Hamisi, Member of Parliament, and Dr. Charles Gimose also addressed the gathering.
He pledged to support the university by funding the installation of floodlights on campus. This promise was received with cheers from the audience. Away from the speeches, the event featured energetic cultural performances that showcased Kenya’s diversity and allowed students to participate actively.
