Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO) has been awarded a university charter by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The college is now Kaimosi Friends University.
Kaimosi Friends University is now the first university in Vihiga county.
The university Principal Prof Jack Nandi said the institution fulfilled all the requirements set up by Commission for University Education.
The university is among eight oyther universities that have received the charters. The others are Alupe in Busia County, Kenya Defence Forces College and Tharaka Nithi College. Four private colleges will also be upgraded.
The college was establishment in September 2014 and has been under Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology,
The college occupies 100 acres within the Kaimosi Mission Complex along the Kisumu, Chavakali, Kapsabet, Eldoret road.
KAFUCO endeavors to be ranked amongst the World Class Universities based on academic excellence and research that impact on societal needs.
The University College was gazetted as a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on May 22, 2015, in a Legal notice number 87 of the Kenya Gazette Supplement number 65.
