Kabungut Boys closed indefinitely after student strike over food quality

Kabungut Boys High School in Bomet County has been shut indefinitely after students staged a strike over food quality, just a day after Koiwa Boys was closed under similar circumstances.

Kabungut Boys High School in Bomet County has been closed indefinitely following a student strike sparked by complaints over the quantity and quality of food.

The unrest, which occurred earlier today, prompted an emergency meeting by the school’s Board of Management, which resolved to send all students home to prevent possible property damage.

“While no damage was reported, the board found it necessary to act swiftly and prevent any escalation,” said a senior school official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“The safety of the students and the school infrastructure is our top priority.”

According to initial reports, students raised concerns about the consistency and hygiene of meals served in the dining hall, stating that it had affected their health.

“It’s been going on for a while. Some of us have experienced stomach upsets after eating,” said one student, who requested not to be named.

Kabungut Boys becomes the second school in Bomet County to be shut down due to unrest in less than 24 hours.

On Tuesday, Koiwa Boys High School was also closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage.

Investigations into that incident are still ongoing.
County education authorities have expressed concern over the growing wave of unrest in schools and are calling for calm.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and working with school administrations to understand the underlying issues,” said a source from the Bomet County Education Office.

As learning remains disrupted, parents and other education stakeholders are urging the government to step in and address the causes of the unrest, particularly issues related to student welfare and communication within schools.
