Two bright students, siblings from Sirare village in Kabuchai of Constituency Bungoma County are asking well-wishers to intervene in helping them raise varsity fees, this is after they failed to join Kisii University on 20th September 2021 due to lack of fees.
Datayo Juma and Martha Juma schooled at Nalondo CBM Secondary School for the physically hand capped. They topped in the school by scoring mean grades of B+ (plus).
The two students were selected to join Kisii University and pursue Bachelor degree in Education science (Chemistry/Biology).
Speaking to Journalists, Jane Namalwa, the mother said that she struggled with fees payment till they completed secondary education.
Namalwa said that she was practicing mixed farming and selling crops to raise school fees for her children adding that the family has sold everything so far.
“My elder son is at Eldoret University therefore I ask our area MP Majimbo Kalasinga and Governor Wycliffe Wangamati to help me take my children to school to pursue their courses because if they succeed Bungoma has succeeded too,” she noted.
The two assured that given a chance to be at the university they will double their efforts to ensure that they achieve their set target.
“We were to join Kisii University on 20th this month but because of the financial status of our family we have remained stuck, our efforts to seek funding from friends has hit a snag as some have failed to respond, if given an opportunity to be at the University will work extra hard,” Datayo said.
Nalondo CBM Principal Mr. Kwanusu Walter Wawire said that the two students were disciplined and determined to perform better despite the hardships at home as they managed to score grade B+ of 67 points.
“These students were needy all the way from primary school and we adopted them since form one. They had fee arrears of Sh38, 600 but we have given them their result slips to enable them to join University,” Kwanusu stated.
Kwanusu appealed to the government to come up with a way of helping needy students who perform exemplary well from special schools so that they can join the universities of their choice and realize their dreams.
Nancy Busuru, teacher for English Literature at Nalondo CBM Secondary School said that Datayo and Martha were very hard working urging well-wishers to intervene and help students to join university.
