The Kabarnet Law Courts have issued orders stopping the Ministry of Education from relocating students of Moi Teachers Training College (TTC)-Baringo to Talai Secondary School.
The decision follows a petition filed to challenge the planned relocation aimed at paving the way for Kabarnet University.
However, the court has scheduled the hearing for August 11 when it is expected to consider submissions from both the petitioners and the Ministry of Education.
The court’s intervention comes after concerns were raised by stakeholders, including parents, students and community leaders, who argued that the relocation was rushed and lacked proper consultation.
In their submission, the petitioners claimed that shifting students to a secondary school would disrupt their learning environment and lower academic standards.

The Ministry of Education had proposed moving Moi TTC students to Talai Secondary School as a temporary measure to create space for Kabarnet University’s campus. The Ministry had justified the move, stating it is part of a broader plan to operationalise Kabarnet University as a constituent college, with intentions to upgrade it into a fully-fledged public university.
However, the petitioners argued that Moi TTC is the only teacher training institution in Baringo County and plays a critical role in producing primary school teachers for the region. They warned that displacing students would create a gap in teacher training and affect the county’s education sector.
The controversy has drawn public attention, with local leaders urging the government to find an alternative site for Kabarnet University without disrupting existing institutions. They emphasized that while the community supports the establishment of a university, the process should not compromise the operations of Moi Teachers College.
