Kabarak University has launched a 700-capacity state-of-the-art TVET institute in Nakuru, marking a pivotal moment in Kenya’s vocational landscape.

The Kabarak University TVET Institute was opened by Director General of TVET Authority Dr. Kipkirui Lang’at, who emphasized the greater need for increased enrollment to make it a success.

He revealed that there is an existing gap in the sub-sector, with over a million students missing from these institutes to fall short of international standards of 30 per cent transition rate from basic education to tertiary institutions.

Dr. Langat also pointed out that statistics indicate that close to 9 million young people are neither in education, employment, nor training.

University Chancellor Gideon Moi hailed the launch as a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to providing quality and accessible education to Kenyan youth.

He stressed the importance of integrating practical skills into the TVET framework, equipping students for employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.

Moi also recognized the challenges posed by the evolving higher education funding model, expressing confidence in the university’s ability to adapt and thrive.

Board of Trustees chairman Raymond Moi lauded the university’s management for its dedication to serving Kenyans and expanding access to education, while Vice Chancellor Prof. Henry Kiplagat expressed optimism that the new institute will encourage more local youth to pursue technical courses.
