Jubilation in Kisii after Ezekiel Machogu’s nomination as Education CS

There was a lot of jubilation in Kisii town and other parts of the county after President Ruto nominated Mr. Ezekiel Machogu as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education.

Residents gathered in groups in the whole town gaily discussing the appointment.

Ibeno ward Member of Count Assembly (MCA) Steve Arika termed the appointment a great honour to the community.

“Ezekiel Machogu is a man of good reputation and we hope that he will serve well in the Education ministry,” he said.

In Kenyenya sub county where Machogu had many supporters during his contest for the Kisii County gubernatorial seat, women and the  youth flocked the roads with songs and  ululation.

“He stood with us and we reciprocated and although he was defeated by Simba Arati, now we have seen God’s hand,” said Joel Omagwa, the former CDF chairman for Bomachoge Borabu Constituency.

He said that Mr. Machogu was a man with public administration experience adding that heading the ministry was a challenge but Machogu was equal to the task.

Mr. Omagwa appealed to him to be honest,firm and focused to streamline the country’s education sector.

Machogu was Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Masaba Constituency from 2017 to  early 2022 when he relinquished the seat to vie for the county’s gubernatorial seat but lost to current governor Simba Arati.

Other persons who have held the position of CS for education before from the region since independence include the late Dr.Zachary Onyonka, Prof Sam Ongeri and the outgoing Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiangi.
