Jubilation as country’s 2020 top KCPE pupil gets full sponsorship

By Makoma Musyoka

It was a jubilant moment for the best candidate in last year’s KCPE exams as she received a full sponsorship to pursue secondary education.

Faith Mumo , who was at risk of missing secondary education due to lack of fees will be reporting to Kenya High School next week alongside other form ones.

Her father, Paul Mumo, an accountant lost his job last year following the economic recession caused by Covid 19   and the mother was unable to raise the school fees to send her to Kenya High School.

Faith, who scored 433 marks out of the possible 500 marks was among those in need of financial support  to further their education. She was a pupil at Kari Mwailu primary school in Makueni county.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule  offered full sponsorship to the girl  by issuing out a cheque worth Ksh 120,000 which will cater for Faith’s one year school fees and other essential requirements including school uniform and other personal needs.

“She is among the students whom I have sponsored . Annually,I sponsor all candidates who score good marks  under a special bursary category,” said the lawmaker yesterday.

“Faith Mumo made Matungulu proud and as CDF board we have agreed to sponsor her school fees in full for four years,” said the MP. “Her school fees and all other requirements will be taken care of as we have engaged the administration of Kenya High and laid down modalities on how the girl will be admitted and kept in school.”

75 needy students from the constituency will also benefit from the scholarships .

“We have set aside Ksh 34 million in our CDF kitty which will go to education bursaries targetting all needy students in order to ensure none of them fails to achieve their academic goals due to lack of fees,” said Mule.

Mr Mule also appealed to well -wishers to join hands with his office in ensuring children from poor backgrounds attend school.

Faith could not hold back her tears as she thanked the MP for resuscitating her grand dream.

“I want to thank the CDF committee and particularly the MP for being kind. I promise to work hard in school and  I’ll also make dreams come true for other girls in future,” said Faith.

She revealed her dream to pursue a career in neurosurgery had been rocked by doubts and despair after her parents indicated they were unable to afford her education at Kenya High School.

“I thank all Kenyans who have listened to my cry and one day when I achieve my dream I’ll come back here and support other girls and boys to access education,” said Faith.
