The Kenya Junior School Teachers Association (KEJUSTA), through its Interim National Chairperson, Okil Okil, has urged politicians to stop using teachers’ issues, particularly the internship program and autonomy of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), as a tool for political posturing.
The association criticised recent dramatic Senate debates as mere gimmicks that fail to protect teachers’ welfare.
KEJUSTA called on its members to avoid cheering politicians who exploit teachers’ struggles for political rallies or fundraising, without delivering tangible solutions.

The association emphasised that true progress on autonomy and internship confirmation requires deliberate actions, including the introduction of relevant bills in both Houses of Parliament.
The statement also cautioned against self-proclaimed JSS leaders who use the teachers’ plight to raise campaign funds without advancing the cause.
KEJUSTA urged unity, organisation, and focus among JSS teachers, asserting that autonomy is achievable if members remain committed to action.
