Joy for varsity students as CBO pays their school fees

Bright but needy students from Nyakach constituency who study in various public universities have benefited from a fee payment worth Ksh. 400,000 from a Community-Based Organization (CBO).

Strategic Nyakach CBO gave out the payments in Kisumu where thirty eight students benefited.

During the handover ceremony, the CBO chairman Dr. Alfred Adongo said that the initiative was started in 2019 in order to assist bright but needy students, mostly orphans who could not afford to pay varsity fees.

He said that those who benefited from the gesture were students who had been taking part in community initiatives such as volunteering in churches and doing community work.

Dr. Adongo said there were 170 applicants from the 5 wards in the constituency but they could only afford to assist 38 students due to financial constraints.

“Our target was Ksh. 3 million but we only raised Ksh. 400,000, thus most of the students were given between Ksh. 20,000 to Ksh. 40,000 each,” he said.

An education committee member in the organization Dr. Philip Nyasaa said many students from Nyakach had been missing out on professional courses due to lack of school fees.

He asked more professionals to come out and assist needy students in the area.

A parent, Ms. Phares Atieno who has a student at Egerton University expressed joy as a result of her son being included in the group assisted by the CBO.

The students, drawn from various public universities across the country lauded the organization and promised to work hard.
