Thousands of bright but needy learners in Isiolo have a reason to smile after the County government released bursary funds worth Sh35 million.

Speaking when issuing the cheques, Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan said the funds will benefit over 5,000 needy learners across the 10 wards in the County.

“The Sh 35 million bursary funds will benefit over 5,000 needy learners across the 10 wards in the County. My administration is committed to supporting learners from needy families access education through provision of bursaries,” said the governor.

He noted that the beneficiaries were identified through a vetting process by ward bursary committees.

Although he did not divulge details on the total number of beneficiaries, sources revealed that 75 percent of the funds is expected to be shared equally among the 10 wards and the remaining 25 percent will be distributed depending on the hardship basis with priority on areas hard hit by drought.

County Parents Chair Ismael Galma lauded the bursary program saying it was timely as many parents had been adversely affected by the ongoing drought.
