Joy as schools in Kisii rural areas get electricity connection

Bomachoge Borabu MP. Obadiah Barongo.

Nyangeti Primary and Nyaibate Secondary schools are elated after they were connected to the national electricity grid following an intervention by Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo.

Residents of Bokimonge ward thanked the MP and the NG-CDF office for answering the call to have the schools get electricity after being in the dark for years.

“We came to your office and presented our grievances. You heard our cries and now our children can read uninterrupted,” said one of the residents.

Speaking after the launch of the project, Barongo underscored the importance of electricity in modern life, including the academic and economic sectors.

He said that now with the availability of electricity, his office will work with the county government to establish ICT centres to empower youth’s computer literacy to enable them to earn a living through online platforms.

Barongo also asked the youth to shun drug abuse and early marriages, but instead form self-help groups with which the government may assist them by providing soft loans and grants.

Headteacher Simeon Sosion and Principal Duncan Ongate expressed their joy for area learners saying that they will now conduct their evening studies efficiently.

Parent Anne Kemunto Omare said that she was relieved as she will no longer struggle to earn extra money to buy paraffin for her children’s evening studies.
