Joy as Homa Bay school girls receive donated sanitary pads

Homa bay County school girls couldn’t hide their joy as they receive sanitary pads donated by the  Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation in partnership with the International Association of Women Judges Kenya.

The items handed over to schools by KPC Foundation representative, Job Apuko in the presence of Lady Justice Teresa Odera from Kisii High Court and Chief Magistrate from Homa Bay, Jacinta Orwa, will serve a total of 700 girls from four schools in Suba North Sub County.

Apuko while handing over the items noted that the initiative is aimed at curbing school absenteeism associated with menstrual periods for girls, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, adding that the foundation had  spent over Khs 24 million improving infrastructure in schools in Homa Bay County.

The projects include the construction of two classrooms worth Kshs 3 million at Lambwe Special Secondary School, a dormitory worth Kshs 5 million at Siburi Secondary, and a dormitory worth Kshs 5 million at St. Joseph Multipurpose Secondary School.

The schools which benefitted were Lambwe Special School for the Deaf, Lambwe Christian School for the Deaf, Ongongo Secondary School and Lambwe Primary School.

Other projects are a modern laboratory and dormitory worth Sh8 million at Simbi Mixed Secondary School, as well as an administration block and latrine valued at Kshs 3 million at Kowuor Primary School in Karachuonyo Constituency.

Apuko said their objective is to ensure learners in the county got a conducive learning environment and ensure that they have a bright future.

“Education is a game changer that can enable children to be productive citizens in the future. The Foundation strives to enable children of the region to become productive citizens when they grow up,” Apuko said.

Lambwe Special Secondary School Principal, Margaret Kwamboka, hailed the support from the KPC Foundation, adding that it has alleviated the shortage of classrooms in her school.

“This donation of sanitary pads and the classrooms project will have a positive impact on our students. It will improve academic performance in this school,” Kwamboka added.

She said most of her students are orphans who faced various social challenges; hence, they need support.
