Parents, friends, and relatives of a 14-year-old grade six pupil from Budalangi who had dropped out of school due to a swelling on her breast have every reason to rejoice following the return of their daughter after a successful surgery.

Speaking during a homecoming ceremony for the pupil at Mubwayo primary School in Bunyala central recently, the orphaned girl’s grandma Angelina Tabu aged 60, a resident of Bumarani village thanked the well-wisher, Mr James Mabele, aka “Mabere Fresh’ for volunteering to meet the cost of treatment for her granddaughter Michel Riaba.

She said her granddaughter was forced out of school in May last year after she developed a swelling on her breast that grew bigger and bigger each passing day.

“My granddaughter underwent excruciating pain owing to the swollen breasts. This, apart from causing her to spend sleepless nights, had as well forced her to drop out of school as she could not concentrate on her studies,” said Angelina, adding that she took her ailing granddaughter to Coast General Hospital for emergency treatment, but she was forced to return her as she couldn’t afford the high cost of treatment.

“I want to take this golden opportunity to wholeheartedly thank our well-wisher, Mr James Mabere for agreeing to take the response of rushing my granddaughter Michel to a Nairobi hospital for emergency medical breast surgery and meeting the cost of treatment,” she said.

The orphaned pupil, too, thanked the well-wisher for coming to her aid at a time when she badly needed help considering that nobody within the neighborhood had bothered to bail her out of the sorrowful situation she had been undergoing.

“No leader from my village had cared to bail me out of the pain I had been facing, so I want to sincerely thank Mr Mabele for volunteering to help me,’ said the orphaned grade six pupil.

Mubwayo primary school head Godfrey Oundo described the grade six pupil as hardworking, respectful both to her teachers and fellow pupils, and well-behaved.

The well-wisher assured the grade 6 pupil’s Grandma and relatives that he will continue to utilize every resource at his disposal to support the education of the needy pupil up to the university as well as her upkeep.

“Michel is a total orphan, I am treating her as my biological daughter and I will continue to cater for her upkeep with effect from today. I will also the cost of her education up to the university,” said the well-wisher.

Fr Chrisantus Okello of Magpmbe Catholic parish who had over the mass service for the pupil’s homecoming ceremony urged other area leaders to emulate the well-wisher and support the education of needy children in Budalangi constituency.
