Machakos County has achieved a 100 per cent transition of learners to Grade 9, says County Director of Education, Margaret Mwirigi.
Speaking on Wednesday January 15 at Tala Township Primary School during the commissioning of three new Grade Nine classrooms on Wednesday, Mwirigi praised stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring the smooth progression of students under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
She noted that the transition process was seamless, with no major challenges reported.
Mwirigi attributed this success to collaborative efforts between parents, teachers, and education officials.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of all education stakeholders in Machakos. We remain committed to ensuring no child is left behind,” she stated.
The director further revealed that preparations for Phase Three of classroom construction are already underway.
“The procurement process for the next phase has been finalized, and construction will commence soon. This will significantly address the growing infrastructure needs as student enrollment continues to rise,” she said.

In addition to infrastructure, she highlighted progress in the provision of learning materials, with schools having received 80 per cent of the required textbooks.
She assured stakeholders that efforts were ongoing to ensure full delivery in the coming months.
Mwirigi also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of discipline and values among students.
“As we build classrooms and provide resources, it is equally important for you students to uphold high standards of discipline and moral values. This is the foundation for academic and personal success, remember without values you’re going nowhere,” she remarked.
Mwirigi then proceeded to St Mary’s Primary School, where she laid the foundation stone for another classroom block.
The initiative, she said, was part of the county’s broader efforts to meet the demands of the new curriculum.
The director was accompanied by Matungulu Sub-county Director of Education, Lilian Gitahi, and the TSC Sub-county Director, Dennis Nyaoga.
Both officials echoed Mwirigi’s sentiments, lauding the progress made so far while reiterating their commitment to addressing the challenges that remain.
