Learners in Chepalungu Constituency are set to benefit from increased bursary allocations.
This is after area MP Victor Koech announced enhanced funding for students in tertiary institutions.
Speaking in Sigor town, Koech said the move is aimed at supporting more needy students and improving education standards in the constituency.
“There is a need to enrol more needy students in the bursary programme so that we can boost the level of education in our area,” said Koech.
The legislator noted that in the past, the constituency supported only three students per institution, but this number will now increase to five under his leadership.
“In the past, we have been allocating bursaries to only three students per institution. During my tenure, we will increase this to five so that more learners can benefit,” he said.
Koech also announced an increase in the per-student allocation, with beneficiaries set to receive Sh8,000, up from the previous Sh4,000.
“We have doubled the allocation per student from Sh4,000 to Sh8,000 to help cover more school fees and ease the burden on parents,” he added.
The MP made the remarks while issuing a Sh40 million cheque to support secondary schools, tertiary institutions and technical colleges across the constituency.

Koech emphasised his personal commitment to education, recalling the financial struggles he faced during his time at Moi University.
“Education is very dear to me. I had to cook mandazi for sale while studying at Moi University due to financial challenges from my poor family background,” he revealed.
He pledged to seek additional funding sources to expand the bursary programme and ensure that more deserving students have access to education.
“I will continue to look for other sources of funding so that we can support more needy students to achieve their academic dreams,” said Koech.
