Over 1,000 needy learners from Isiolo North have a reason to smile after receiving sleeping kits and learning essentials from Canadian based Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW), My Space Properties and Rotary Club of Isiolo.

SCAW representative Ed Jakes said they were keen on ensuring children across the world access dignified sleeping kits which have mattresses, bedding and pajamas.

The learning essentials included bags, exercise books, pens, lunch boxes and water bottles.

Jakes added that the initiative is geared towards improving the learners’ academic performance by ensuring they get enough sleep.

My Space Properties CEO Mwenda Thuranira said he solicited for help from the Canadian team in a bid to help uplift the living standards of the learners who were living in abject poverty.

He added that problems facing residents can only be resolved through collective responsibility by elected leaders and Samaritans.

Isiolo Rotary Club official Gilbert Mato said as a result of the prolonged drought, many parents only prioritized on ensuring their kids get food hence sleeping kits were seen as secondary needs.

“We saw it worth to ensure children from poor backgrounds have comfortable sleep as a move to improve their academic performance,” he added.

County Director of Education Caroline Mugo noted that the donations will encourage the learners to work hard and better their lives.

She appealed for more aid for the children across the county.
