The Joseph Waswa Foundation is set to issue bursaries and free school uniforms to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds in Webuye West Constituency during its second cohort rollout this weekend.
The exercise, which will be conducted at Matulo RC Comprehensive School, will see pupils in Grades 1 to 6 from Sitikho and Matulo wards receive free school uniforms, while students in higher learning institutions will benefit from bursary support.
Foundation Programme Coordinator Isaac Wanjekeche said the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on families and improving access to education among needy learners.
Wanjekeche emphasized that the foundation has structured the programme to address the specific needs of different categories of learners, noting that younger pupils often lack essential items such as uniforms, while those in tertiary institutions face financial constraints in sustaining their studies.
“Students must have a good learning environment to succeed academically. By providing uniforms to younger learners and bursaries to those in higher institutions, we are addressing key barriers to education,” he said.

He added that the programme strictly targets beneficiaries from vulnerable backgrounds within Webuye West Constituency, ensuring support reaches those most in need.
The second cohort builds on the foundation’s earlier phase, which focused on secondary school students, marking a gradual expansion of its education support initiatives across different levels of learning.
Education stakeholders have lauded the programme as a timely intervention that is likely to boost school attendance, retention, and academic performance in the area.
The event is expected to bring together beneficiaries, parents, and local leaders, highlighting the growing impact of community-driven efforts in strengthening access to education.
