Marani sub county Community Policing (Nyumba Kumi) Chairman Robert Omuko has asked area school leavers to join TVET institutions and colleges instead of indulging in wayward activities.

Omuko who spoke to residents at Mosocho town said that there was a need for the youth to equip themselves with skills that will enable them to sustain their lives in the present and future.

He asked them to take advantage of the provision of student loans and free scholarships for TVET students by the government.

Omuko cited Raganga and Nyamondo Polytechnics as some of the technical institutions which he said had very few students and urged them to enroll.

The Chairman also decried the high number of youth who joined the boda boda business instead of enrolling in the local polytechnics to acquire marketable skills.

He further said that his office will work with the police to arrest the school dropouts who hid behind shops where they played cards until late hours when they sneaked into the roads to vandalize telephone wires and public property.

“Majority of crimes reported at our offices are those from youth who dropped out of school and wander around the market disturbing the peace,” he said.

Omuko said that the most affected towns include Marani, Kegogi, Nyakoe, Sensi and Oaro. He promised to lay strategies that will see the culprits were brought to book.
