Join Scouts Association, pupils urged

By James Wakahiu

For discipline, good leadership, socio-economic growth and healthy upbringing of children, parents have been challenged to encourage their children to join Kenya Scouts Association.
Ruiru Sub-County Kenya Scouts Association Commissioner Joseph Otundo said that children in the scouting association have been found to perform better than those not enrolled.
He said that the association has been spearheading programmes to enlighten member children on the dangers of societal vices including drug abuse.
Speaking during a scouting drill competition held at Wankan Academy in Ruiru, where more than 1,000 pupils from both public and private schools performed, Otundo maintained that a scouting nation is environment friendly as members are intensively taught on the importance of conserving the environment.
He said that in the recent past, scouting has weakened as parents do not understand why their children should join the association.
He however expressed optimism that the association would see tremendous growth and thereby spread the values of scouting.
Scouts who spoke to the press stated that being members has helped them take their responsibilities wisely and exhibit discipline in their studies.
