John Osogo Secondary School’s soccer team from Budalang’i is this year’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) champion, having beaten their arch-rivals, Mabunge RC from Nambale sub-county, at the county finals held at Kamuriai Secondary School in Teso North on Saturday evening.
John Osogo beat Mabunge 4-2 through penalty kicks after both teams drew 1-1 during normal time, a replica of last year’s finals, where penalty kicks separated them after finishing in a draw during regular and extra time at St. Mathias Secondary School in Busia town.
John Osogo qualified for the finals after beating Kolanya Boys from Teso North 3-1 on penalties, following a draw at the end of standard time.
On their side, Mabunge were beaten 2-0 by Kaliwa in the first semi-final, but they successfully appealed against Kaliwa, whom they accused of fielding ineligible players. After the case was determined, Kaliwa were kicked out of the competition and Mabunge was allowed to proceed to the finals.
John Osogo team head coach Eric Omondi said they are embarking on serious training ahead of the regional competitions next month.
In soccer, Kingandole from Butula emerged as the winner after beating St. Joseph’s Chakol 7-6 in a shootout, following a 1-1 draw during standard time.
