Jaramogi Oginga Odinga university student dies by suicide in Siaya

A 25-year-old Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science And Technology, Siaya Campus student has died after allegedly attempting suicide using a leso at his girlfriend’s house at Southlands Estate in Siaya town.

While confirming the incident, Siaya County police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the incident was reported to Siaya Police Station by the Siaya County Referral Hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr Michael Oduor, who stated that the a dead body had been brought to their casualty room as an emergency.

The police commander further stated that the deceased had been rushed to the hospital by his girlfriend, Sharon Achola, who is also the student in the same University after he attempted to hang himself using a leso.

Kimaiyo added that, according to Sharon, her boyfriend had visited her on Tuesday morning and at night kept threatening to take his life and even made a Facebook post about his intentions, claiming that his parents and siblings were making his life hard.

He went further by saying that on Wednesday; Sharon woke up and went to take a bath, only to find the door locked from the inside on coming back. It’s at the moment when she raised the alarm attracting neighbours who swiftly responded by climbing over the roof only to find Laban Onyango hanging with a leso on his neck.

The officer from the police station cut the leso and rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The body was transferred to the same hospital’s mortuary pending autopsy.
