It’s a walkover for most KNUT branch officials in polls

Majority of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) branch officials went unopposed in recent elections.

The latest branches to conclude elections are West Pokot, Marsabit, Nakuru, Mandera, Bungoma East, North and South, Olkejuado, Trans Nzoia and Murang’a North and South.

In Bungoma North branch, only the incumbent Executive Secretary Chrispinus Sifuna retained his seat while Chairman Siketi Patrick was replaced by John Kikechi.

Moses Wanyonyi and Kusina Mary Consolata failed to retain their branch Treasurer and Women Representative seats respectively. Esther Osembo and Linet Lusaka are the new Treasurer and Woman Rep respectively.

In Bungoma South branch, Executive Secretary Kenneth Nganga was re-elected.  Augustin Watamba is the chairman while Margaret Mwangala was elected Treasurer.  

In Trans-Nzoia, George Wanjala Simiyu, who is the former branch Chairman, went unopposed as branch Executive Secretary, while Wilberforce Wamalwa was also unopposed as branch chairman.

In West Pokot, incumbent Executive Secretary Sembelo Eris Martin retained the position while Joel Partich (Chairman), Pamela Kasait (women representative) and Daniel Lopale (Treasurer) were unopposed.

In Nakuru, all the branch officials were not challenged in the elections. They are Executive Secretary Anthony Gioche, Chairman Joseph Bii, Treasurer Joseph Kirumi, Woman Rep Alice Chepkoech and representative of people living with disabilities Regina Chepng’eno.

The branch elections, which started on January 9 in 11 branches, entered the seventh round last Saturday with 58 branches concluding their elections. The remaining 52 branches are expected to conclude their elections by March 20.
