Investigations have been launched into a fire incident that saw a dormitory at Mabole Boys secondary school in Butere Sub County razed down on the night of 12th July while students were in class for their evening preps.

Butere Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Barnabas Kipsang said investigations had been launched into the matter to unravel the cause of the fire.

He further said that the 180 students who lost personal property worth thousands of shillings in the inferno were forced to go home for one week in order to acquire important personal effects.

“We thank God that no life was lost in the incident. Investigations are underway by the DCI to establish the cause of the fire. In the meantime the affected students will go home till next week as we make arrangements to get them mattresses before they resume.” Kipsang said

It was reported that the dormitory which is occupied by form one students  caught fire at around 8:00 pm and all efforts to put it out were not fruitful.

Parents and leaders from around the school have called upon both the national and County governments to intervene and help the school so that learning for the affected students can continue.

The Anglican Bishop of Butere Diocese Rose Okeno said it was regrettable that such an incident happened at a time when parents were going through very difficult financial times. She appealed to well wishers and sponsors to come to the aid of the school.

“We are here to encourage and give hope to the students that all is not lost as we call on all the stakeholders to come in and support in any way possible because a lot of damage has been done. We have lost quite a lot and we are calling for support,” appealed the Bishop.
