Indiscipline will ruin your careers, TSC Director tells new teachers

Newly recruited teachers from Malava and Matete sub counties have been asked to abide by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Code of Conduct to remain in service.

The new Matete TSC sub-county Director David Agwanda Omondi, while addressing teachers and principals during a two-day induction workshop for new teachers at Kivaywa school, pointed out that the workshop was handy to principals considering that they were the custodians of their various schools and hence should be taken through on the due process to be taken once a teacher goes astray.

“Discipline has been an issue in most of our schools but we hope that with such workshops being held our young teachers who are still new in the profession will abide by them and do the right thing. As the TSC code of conduct stipulates, we are all doing this for the benefit of the learner and it is our total commitment to see to it that our teachers are professionals while plying their trade,” he said.

The Director, who transferred from Turkana’s Kibish sub-county, stated that teaching was a much respected profession that should also have great degree of discipline and urged his teachers to follow the guidelines to the latter.

“The country is currently understaffed and we cannot afford to lose our young teachers due to indiscipline cases, as it will drastically affect our learners’ performance. We are the mirror of the society and should reflect that from the word go because parents have entrusted their children unto our care for proper nurturing and we cannot afford to let them down lest we lose a whole society,” he said.

He urged the principals to understand which offenses can be handled internally and which ones need outside intervention.

“As an office, we are here to guide you whenever such matters arise as our core aim is to ensure that our leaders of tomorrow get the best out of us.” Omondi concluded.
