The Africa Children Summit, which was held in Nairobi recently, provided a platform for children across Africa to discuss issues affecting them and share recommendations on policy interventions.
The children also talked about the interventions by their governments on issues affecting them.
The inaugural event, which was themed “Seen, Heard and Engaged”, was attended by children aged 10 -17 years across Africa.
The event had open registration for every child on the continent.
The summit was graced by dignitaries like the Vice Chair of UN Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child Prof. Philip D. Jaffé who emphasized the need to protect the rights of pregnant girls and improved healthcare access.
Also present were the chairperson of the NCAJ Standing Committee on the Administration of Justice for Children Justice Teresia Matheka, a judge of the High Court of Kenya.
Hon. Alassane Moulaye Sidikou, Member of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, encouraged the children to defend their rights.
