Illegal children’s home in Malindi sub county will be shut down, the government has said.
Speaking to Education News in her office in Malindi town, Malindi sub county Children’s Officer, Ms. Naomi Kazungu urged owners of children’s homes to comply with regulations and rules before they start operations.
She disclosed that Non – Governmental Organizations (NGOS) and individuals who want to operate children’s homes in the area must first obtain clearance from Malindi sub county Advisory Council ( MSAC ).
She explained that registration is aimed at exercising accountability and transparencies as well as ensuring that the basic environmental requirements are met before operations begin.
She further said that her office has already put plans in place to protect and promote the rights of children in the area.
Currently, there are 15 children’s homes and 2 rescue centers in Malindi sub county.
However, Ms Kazungu added that the government has spent Ksh 10 million to build a modern Children Protection Centre in Malindi town to guide and counsel exploited children within the sub county.
