Ikolomani Member of Parliament, MP Benard Shinali has blamed Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa for poor education facilities, accusing him of neglecting education sector.

Shinali said Barasa had reneged on his pre-election pledges where he promised to complete all the education institutions initiated by his predecessor Wycliffe Oparanya.

“Governor Barasa promised to not only complete some of the projects that were still pending but put up new ones. But he has done completely nothing three years down the line,” he added.

He said the governor, in particular, promised to put up at least two additional Early Childhood Development Education centres per Ward in addition to those put up by former governor and that there was still little to show for.

He said many county polytechnics that were either initiated or renovated by the Oparanya administration were pale shadows of their former selves.

He accused Barasa of running the County affairs without holding public forums to listen to the views of the residents.

“ECDEs and county polytechnics are very critical to the education system of our entire country and we shall have ourselves to blame if we let them die here in Kakamega,” he said.

He urged the governor to share details of beneficiaries of county bursaries and scholarships.

Shinali was speaking at St. Ambrose Malinya Girls High School during the launch of a new storey learning block presided over by Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana.

The duo had earlier launched similar facilities at Ivakale and Shitochi primary schools in Shinyalu.

The two said they had joined forces to develop their two constituencies for the betterment of the residents with main focus on education, roads and security.

“We have come together to serve our constituents through shared vision and agenda and we have already achieved a lot. Education is on top of these priorities,” said Ikana.
