Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi has unveiled a plan to equip five constituency ICT hubs with more than 300 computers, positioning the centres as engines for youth empowerment, digital training and employment creation. He said the initiative targets school leavers who are unemployed or underemployed, offering them access to devices, reliable internet and practical ICT skills to compete in the modern economy.
Mwirigi described the hubs as spaces for learning, innovation and entrepreneurship, designed to help young people acquire market‑relevant competencies and build sustainable livelihoods. Through the centres, he noted, youth will be able to tap into online job opportunities, enrol in digital training programmes, explore freelancing platforms, and incubate business ideas while awaiting formal employment.
“The future of work is digital. These ICT hubs will enable our young people to create opportunities for themselves instead of relying solely on white‑collar jobs,” Mwirigi said, underscoring the need for adaptability and continuous upskilling in a changing labour market.

He added that technology is a key driver of economic growth and social transformation, arguing that investing in ICT infrastructure at the grassroots is essential to reducing unemployment and promoting self‑reliance. By expanding access to tools and training, he said, the hubs will help bridge the digital divide that often disadvantages rural communities.
The MP further noted that the project aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, complementing efforts to expand connectivity and digital literacy nationwide. He expressed confidence that the centres will nurture innovation, boost productivity and unlock the potential of Igembe South’s youth to compete locally and globally.
Mwirigi said the rollout of the computers will be phased to ensure each hub is fully operational, with programmes tailored to local needs and partnerships explored to sustain training and mentorship. He emphasised that the success of the initiative will depend on consistent utilisation, community support and a clear focus on employability outcomes.
Mwirigi expressed confidence that the constituency can accelerate youth participation in the digital economy, turning technology into a pathway for jobs, enterprise and long‑term resilience.
