Ida Odinga praises elites for uplifting development in education

The wife of the former Prime Minister Mrs. Ida Odinga has praised elites from Kisii County for coming together to give back to the society by supporting development in schools.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Nyaura Primary School in aid of transforming the institution into a model school, Ida asked the community to educate the girl child because she is a bridge in society.

Mrs. Ida Odinga asked the youths, especially girls from the region to emulate the PS for Health Mrs. Susan Mochache who beat all odds of social manipulation to acquire quality education.

“She is great lady now who has mobilized all of us here to give back to society,” she said.

Mrs. Mochache led the School’s Board of Management Committee to host the guests in the aid of the school’s fund raising.

She said that the PS is one of the alumni of Nyaura Primary School and there was no way she could forget to uplift it when she had the ability to.

During the well-attended meeting by majority of Kisii County leaders led by Kisii County Governor James Ongwae and CS for Internal Security Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Mrs. Odinga called for the abolition of boarding schools in order to avert school arsons.

She wondered why the arson suspects targeted boarding institutions and suggested that they could be a bane to learners and should be avoided.

“Why don’t they burn day schools but focus on the boarding houses?” she asked.

Ida who was an high school teacher, asked those student who felt tired of being in boarding programmes to seek permission to vacate instead of causing destruction to other needy and innocent learners.

“Let the young ones seek voluntary transfers from their schools instead of reducing them into desolate places within a short time,” she projected, adding that the government invested much in them. She therefore asked the government to divert the resources and concentrate on the construction of more day schools.

CS in the Ministry of Health Dr. Mutahi Kagwe, who was among the guests, on his part asked the public, especially teachers and students to observe all of the COVID-19 protocols because the disease was still ripe in the country.

He asked the populace to go for voluntary vaccination in order to minimize the chances of contracting the disease.
