Hundreds of needy KCPE candidates to miss Elimu Yetu scholarships

Kisumu County Director fo Education Rosemary Birenge.

Hundreds of bright and needy 2023 KCPE candidates in Kisumu County have missed the government-sponsored Elimu Yetu scholarship programme due to limited funds.

The County Director of Education (CDE) Rosemary Birenge regretted that out of over 3,000 applications, only 288 students have been picked.

Speaking in Kisumu while overseeing the flagging off of successful applicants, Birenge said that all interested students were vetted and qualified but there were only a few slots.

The CDE said that to enforce transparency, the vetting committee included education officials, faith-based groups, members of the provincial administration, and even neighbors.

Birenge urged the selected beneficiaries to work hard to uplift their families and enrich the future.

The programme Coordinator in the county Solomon Juma said that the government will provide successful applicants with stipends, transport and other required items.

Juma added that the students would be monitored throughout the course of their studies.
