The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has introduced a new digital portal that allows teachers to apply for transfers or mutual swaps without paperwork. The system is designed to speed up approvals, track applications in real time, and ensure secure record handling.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it:
To get started, you’ll first need to access the new portal by visiting https://portal.tsc.go.ke/ and logging in with your TSC number, national ID, and mobile number. Your password is the same one you previously used for the Teachers Online Services (TOS) portal.
If you’ve never logged in before or have forgotten your password, you can reset it by clicking “Forgot Password.” An OTP will be sent to your official TSC email. After verifying the OTP, you can create a new password. If the OTP expires, you’ll need to click “Resend OTP.”
Once logged in, you’ll be on the Teacher Dashboard. From here, navigate to the “Transfer & Swap” section in the sidebar menu and then click “Request Transfer.” You’ll be guided through four sections to complete your application: Profile and Length of Service (LOS), which are both auto-filled by the system; Reason for Transfer, where you select from a list of options; and Transfer To, where you’ll indicate your preferred school or location. After filling in the required fields, you can click “Submit.”

The portal also allows for exploring swap opportunities. From the dashboard, you can view available swap matches. If you find a suitable match, you can either approve or accept the request. Once both parties have agreed, the system will lock the swap to prevent duplication.
After a request has been submitted, the Head of Institution (HOI) logs into the same portal to review it. They can preview the application, add comments, and then approve it. It’s important to note that transfers for HOIs or Deputy HOIs are handled administratively, but the HOI still plays a key role in the review and comment process.
Once an application is approved, a digital transfer letter is sent to the HOI’s official email, and you’ll receive real-time updates through the portal. The entire system is seamlessly integrated with the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS), the Entry-Exit System, and the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) to ensure secure record handling and smooth updates throughout the entire process.
