A section of Machakos county schools will be heading to the regionals after trouncing their opponents at the county level.
Katwanyaa High School from Matungulu sub county won the boy’s rugby game by beating St. Augustine Secondary from Mavoko sub county 14 points to Zero.
In an exclusive interview with the school Games Master, Frazier Kioko, noted that the team has been training well and hopes to reach national level.
“In the Semis we beat Muvuti High School six points to zero. We have been to the nationals twice as a team thanks to the coach Mr. Simiyu who has been going out of his way to train the team. We can proudly say we are the best team in the county,” said Kioko.
The teacher noted that the team has received massive support and motivation from the school thus performing well.
“It has grown under three principals who supported the team financially and emotionally. They have been to Thika open, Mang’u open, and Alliance in a bid to enhance their skills,” he said.
He disclosed that other teams like basketball, badminton and handbag have been doing well too.
St. Francis Boys Katangi won the hockey games after whipping Muvuti Secondary School with three points to one in the shootouts after failing to score in the four quarters.
The school game master Ben Muia said they have high hopes of defending their title at the regionals without a penalty shootout.
“We pride ourselves in hockey, last year we were the eastern region champions and at the national level we came out number six. In Meru, we will defend our position and at the national level strive to do better,” he said.
Yatta Girls’ team won the handball game against Kwanthanze Secondary, while St. Austine Matuu Day Secondary won the boy’s handball game against Machakos School.
AIC Nyayo Girls won the girl’s hockey game against Kiundwani Girls while Muthetheni Mixed won the basketball game for girls and Lukenya School won the basketball game for boys against Machakos School.
