How Kisumu County Gov’t bursaries was shared to schools, colleges

Secondary schools and special institutions will receive the highest amount of funds from the bursaries released by the Kisumu County Government.

20,021 secondary schools students, 2,348 students from special institutions, 4,608 from tertiary colleges and 1260 students from driving schools will benefit.

Speaking during the disbursement of the funds, governor Anyang Nyong’o talked of their consistency in the disbursement of the bursaries and scholarships to needy students across the 7 sub counties.

Ksh 68, 462,826 was released in December 2020,Kshs 47,260,400 released in March this year, Ksh 45m released in June and  Ksh 44,276,774 released in July.

 Nyong’o appealed to leaders, parents and teachers to ensure all needy students are encouraged to apply for the bursaries.

He added that the county government will sponsor 70 students, 2 students from each of the 35 wards to the Marine Training School based in Kisumu County.

 He also said that his government had embarked on automation of the bursary management process as part of the wider plan to digitize and automate all county processes, procedures and systems. The move is meant to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the bursary management process.

The governor expressed his gratitude to partners who have played a key role  in ensuring access to quality education  through issuance of  bursaries and scholarships at secondary, colleges and university levels within  the county.

Some of the partners he named include; Family Bank, Equity Bank through the Wings to Fly programme, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, KCB Foundation and Palm House Foundation among others.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to study hard, pass their examinations and fulfill their career dreams.’ He said.

He urged the public to strictly follow the laid down procedures by the Ministry of Health in the fight Covid 19.
