All the Form One hopefuls who sat the KCPE earlier in the year have been placed in secondary schools, Education News can now report.
In the Form One Placement that was released by the Education Cabinet Secretary, 1,225,502 KCPE candidates for 2021 Academic Year have been placed in 9,200 schools across the country.
38,797 of them went to national schools as 2,045 are to join Special Needs Education (SNE) schools, 214,960 are going to extra county schools, 218,456 to county schools, 9,128 to refugee schools in camps and 726,311 are set to join sub-county schools, coming to a total of 1,209,697 candidates.
In the placements, 900 were inmates as 573 were over-age and elderly while 33,627 were covered in the underage category (12 years and below). 9,128 were from refugee camps and 2,819 were special needs under the SNE programme.
The Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha, while releasing the results at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) yesterday, April 11, said that the Ministry of Education placed all selectable candidates appropriately in secondary schools in keeping with the 100% transition policy.
He added that they strictly applied the principles of merit, choice and equity in placing candidates in each school category.
“We have given opportunities to the less fortunate in our society. Public primary schools have received a reasonable number of vacancies in all schools that is commensurate with their candidature. In the placement, the majority of candidates who scored 400 marks and above were placed in National or Extra County schools of their choice. The special needs candidates were also placed in the regular schools of their preference, while others were placed in special schools based on their disability categories, on merit and choice,” read the speech in part.
