Hope Foundation for Africa has held an anti- Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) sensitization campaign in Nyamira.

Speaking to the public during the campaign, the chairperson of the foundation Gladys Nyasuguta emphasized the persistence of underground practitioners of this harmful tradition and assuring that their days were numbered as they were violating the law.

She further appealed to local Chiefs and their assistants to organize public meetings to condemn the practice.

“The vice leads to deprivation of a girl’s natural pleasure of procreation and increased vulnerability to infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS,” she lamented.

Wilfred Mochiemo, a male volunteer in the campaign, also noted the adverse effects of FGM on women during childbirth and emphasized the need to protect future generations from such pain.

The Assistant Chief of Eronge Sublocation, George Sindiga, pledged to recruit more Nyumba Kumi workers during the long holiday to combat this harmful practice.

He commended the County Woman Representative, Jerusah Momanyi, for her dedication to the children’s rights cause, encouraging other leaders to follow suit.

Nyamira clan elders, led by Shem Okworo, announced their collaboration with churches and community social workers to enforce laws that protect children.
