Hope at last for Kenyan students stranded in Finish Universities

A private agency has come to the rescue of students stranded in Finland whose hopes to continue with studies were slowly diminishing. This is after it was reported few days ago that the students were at risk of being deported back to Kenya after recurring debts in country’s universities which the County Government of Uasin Gishu had failed to pay.

The agency, Maxglobal Group, which has been running a similar programme as that of Uasin Gishu County, signed an agreement with parents of the stranded students as the families also pushed for further investigation into the programme so that they can be able to recover money held in the trust fund.

With the new deal, the parents opened new accounts with the Standard Bank which will be used to remit money to the institutions in Finland.

This comes after the governor of Uasin Gishu, Jonathan Bii, suspended three officials who were involved in the embezzlement of the funds as together with other leaders like Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, pledged that they will also chip in to ensure that the students in Finland get to finish their studies without further disruptions.

According to Maxglobal Chief Executive Officer Cornelius Kiplagat, of the more than 300 Kenyan students studying in Finland, only those linked with the county government of Uasin Gishu face challenges where the county acted as a guarantor for the students in the agreement.

He asked leaders to stop politicising education in foreign countries and instead push for more friendly deals.
