Hooliganism condemned after football match is abandoned in Nyanza regional championship

Lawrence Karuntimi, Nyanza RDE. He has condemned acts of hooliganism during the KSSSA Term 2 ball games that led to a football match being abandoned.

Nyanza Regional Director of Education (RDE) Lawrence Karuntimi has condemned acts of hooliganism during the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games.

Speaking at Cardinal Otunga High School over the weekend, the RDE was deeply concerned about pitch invasion by fans during the just concluded KSSSA Term Two games in Nyanza that interrupted a match.

“We have no problem with institutions having fans at the events, but when the said fans interfere with the running of the games, it becomes a bit difficult for us. We would want discipline in our fields, as well as everybody following instructions. We will see how to improve that in future,” he said.

He further lauded the participants for giving their best at the event despite constant disruptions from fans.

“We have seen situations where we could have done better. We are going to sit down and look at how we can make this more student –centred because it is like the funds are going to overrun us,” he added.

In the concluded regional games, there were several teams which emerged as winners despite the disruptions and will represent Nyanza in the up-coming national championships.

They include St Alfred Alara –Homabay in football girls, Nyabondo Boys in volleyball boys, and Nyakongo (Kisumu) in the girl’s category.

Rugby 7s Boys saw St Mary’s Yala (Siaya) crowned champions, as Nyakach Girls are ready to represent the region in the girls category.

Onjiko Boys (Kisumu) and Ng’iya Girls will represent in Basketball 3*3.

However, football boys is still pending owing to the disruptions.
