Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has announced that her administration will allocate Ksh.300 million to cater for bursaries for bright but needy students in the county.
The Governor said she had raised the amount from Ksh.200 million and that under the arrangement each ward would be allocated Ksh.5 million.
Wanga who was addressing secondary school heads from Homa Bay during a workshop in Kisumu, she said that another bursary scheme would be initiated by her office christened ‘The Governor’s Scholarship’.
She acknowledged the fact that many needy students could not afford fees at primary, tertiary and university levels.
“No bright but needy students shall stay at home due to lack of school fees,” she said.
While saying that she would also address poor infrastructure in schools within the county, she urged school heads to ensure prudent management of resources at their respective institutions.
She similarly advised them to cultivate a proper working relationship between students, staff, and the surrounding community.
Furthermore, she promised to address all issues raised by the school heads concerning education in the county.
“I will always be here for you so do not fear sharing your issues with me,” she said.
