In a historic achievement for Kenya, Dr David Njengere, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), has been elected as a member of the Council of the International Bureau of Education (IBE) of UNESCO.
The announcement, which was made today, marks the first time a Kenyan has been appointed to serve on the prestigious IBE-UNESCO Board.
The IBE, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is UNESCO’s specialised institute focusing on educational content, policies, and curricula worldwide.
Its council brings together experts and leaders in education to advise on global standards, innovative teaching practices, and policies that shape education systems.

Dr Njengere’s appointment reflects Kenya’s growing influence in international education circles.
